Building the Footings – Part I

by | May 2, 1999

Sorry for the delay in keeping you updated. Since April, things have been very busy. Tri-County power should have a temporary line brought in by the middle of May and I should also have a phone line installed.

As far as the construction goes, I purchased a beat up old Bobcat to help with the construction of the house and I have been busy moving dirt and gravel. A week ago I rented a soil tamper to compact the gravel under where the footings will be built.

And last but not least, this weekend was spent building the outer footings. Constructing the forms wasn’t the hard part but leveling was a laborious task. Next weekend, weather permitting, I should have the framing completed for the outside ring. Then the following weekend I will build the footings for the inside support columns.

And as a final note, my last day of employment will be May 14th. My summer will be devoted to constructing the frame and the roof. And who knows, maybe some of the cordwood walls as well!
