Foam Update and Fun Times

I‘m still working on the paneling for the ceiling and I imagine I will be doing this for weeks to come.

The good news is that I’m getting closer to getting the foam insulation applied to the walls, but unfortunately it will not be the soy product. It appears that the company is not    up to speed with their new manufacturing plant and therefore the cost is prohibitive. I would imagine in another 6 months or so, it might be a viable product, but I just don’t have a warm and fuzzy feeling about their product at this time. I’d rather go with a product that has been around a while and has a good track record. The Demelec Sealection 500 product will be applied during the second or third week in October.

I also met with another electrical contractor last Saturday and although he is just as busy as the rest of them, he spent a lot of time with me and did a thorough job of evaluating my needs. Hopefully there will be a quote in the mail soon.

Besides working on the ceiling and firming up dates with contractors, the last two weekends have been quite busy with friends and relatives coming up to visit.

On the 14th, some of Jo’s family made the trip up to see the progress on the house. It rained a bit on Saturday, but Sunday was a day of beauty and Elizabeth (Jo’s niece) got to go on a horseback ride courtesy of our neighbor Mandi. Mandi has four beautiful horses who have the life of luxury down in our pasture area. It’s great having Mandi and Bill as our neighbors. They’re wonderful people and having their horses around adds to the scenic beauty of the area.

After Elizabeth’s ride, everyone went home after having a great weekend and their cars packed with apples. Speaking of apples…

This last weekend was Applefest. The town of La Crescent, (the undisputed apple capital of Minnesota) had their Applefest. This year we really didn’t do much in town but rather had our own “Applefest” right here at Day Creek.

Within hours, Day Creek was converted into a tent city complete with a croquet golf course. Using 18 wickets, we put together a “sporty” course with a few obstacles. Our friend Eileen decided to get creative and spent last week making Martha-Stewart-like decorations for the course. There were two castles, a teepee, a cow with udders and a very strange looking sheep that we had to hit the balls through. Of course, I had to chime in by designing a hole that used a 10′ piece of 6″ PVC pipe and a few other holes using ramps and whatnot. All and all everyone had a great time playing the course and I’m sure we’ll have to do this again.

Saturday night as the temperature dipped into the low 40’s, we all sat around a VERY LARGE camp fire thanks to the two truckloads of pallets provided by our neighbors Bill and Mandi. Not only did they bring the pallets, they brought their complete set of patio furniture. We all had a great time staying out to the wee hours of the morning listening to the owls, coyotes, cows and neighborhood dogs. Sound travels far out in the country as some of our campers discovered during the night. ZZZZzzzzz…..
